Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Dhaka Metropolitan Unit (DMP) on Thursday arrested a death-row convict in a case over the killing of a child in Bogura about 12 years ago.
The convict Md Abdul Majed, 32, is from Chupinagar Dakshin Para village under Shajahanpur upazila of Bogura, said a media release signed by Mohammad Aslam Khan, superintendent of police (media and awareness unit) at ATU.
Tipped-off, an ATU team conducted a drive in Kuntipara under Sadar upazila of Madaripur on Wednesday and arrested him.
According to the case statement, the five-year-old Roman, son of Hazrat Ali of the Chupinagar Dakshin Para, went missing on August 3, 2011.
The victim’s father filed a general diary with the concerned police station after he failed to trace his son. Later locals held Majed on suspicion of killing the boy.
During the primary interrogation, he admitted that he in collaboration with the other two abducted the boy and killed. Later the body was hidden in a septic tank.
Bogura Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-3 sentenced the two accused including Majed to death and another to life in prison on February 13, 2023.
All the convicts except Majed are still at large in the case, the release added.
