A delegation led by the Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Susan Ryle, paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Food and Public Administration Md. Abdul Bari at the Ministry of Food on Thursday.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Australia, focusing particularly on cooperation in food security and food management.

The state minister briefed the delegation on various government initiatives aimed at ensuring food security in Bangladesh.
He said the government is working to further strengthen the country’s food stock and supply management system, with special emphasis on food preservation and modern storage facilities.
“The government remains committed to ensuring food security for all citizens,” he said.
Abdul Bari also said ensuring safe food for all remains one of the government’s major challenges, adding that continuous efforts are underway to address the issue.
He noted that the problem cannot be solved overnight, but the government has already undertaken several necessary measures and will continue its efforts in phases with the support of all stakeholders.
The Australian envoy appreciated Bangladesh’s achievements in socio-economic development and food management and thanked the state minister for the discussion.
She said Bangladesh and Australia have maintained strong bilateral relations since Bangladesh’s independence.
The High Commissioner also noted that around 28,000 Bangladeshi students are currently studying in Australia.
During the meeting, she proposed the export of wheat from Australia to Bangladesh.
Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner Clinton Pobke, Second Secretary (Economic) Joshua Gacutan, Food Secretary Abu Taher Md. Masud Rana and senior officials of the Ministry of Food were also present.
