A CNG-run autorickshaw driver was stabbed to death with a knife over a trivial matter in Sylhet’s Kanaighat on Wednesday.
The incident happened at the CNG stand at the Palli Bidyut intersection in Gachbari Bazar of the upazila around 8:30 pm on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Alamgir Hossain, 32, of Tinchati village in the Jhingabari union of the upazila.
Kanaighat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jahangir Hossain Sardar confirmed the incident. He and Kanaighat Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASO) Alok Kanti Sharma, visited the spot.
According to locals, after Alamgir’s autorickshaw collided with the motorcycle of Sadiq Ahmed of Akuni village of the same union, Sadiq and another youth with him got angry and started indiscriminately attacking Alamgir with a sharp knife.
Later, Alamgir Hossain died on the spot.
While people from the neighbourhood went to rescue Alamgir, the killers fled, leaving the motorcycle on the spot.Later, an angry mob set fire to the motorcycle.
Later, the deceased’s body was taken to his house.
