The Health and Family Welfare Ministry and Directorate General of Health Services jointly organised the press briefing on the emerging tobacco products at the ministry.
Medical Education and Family Welfare Division Secretary Shaikh Yusuf Harun who spoke at the programme as the chief guest said although e-cigarette and vaping are widely used in western countries but Bangladesh is not out of risks.
He said the use of emerging tobacco products is on the rise among the country’s young generation.
Mentioning that 30 countries, including India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Singapore, have banned the use of e-cigarette, the secretary said Bangladesh should also follow the global experience.
He said the draft of the National Tobacco Control Policy has been finalised and it will be placed before the Cabinet soon for its approval.
Yusuf Harun sought cooperation from all to make the tobacco control campaign a success as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has promised to make the country free from tobacco by 2040.
