The speech was telecast immediately after the opening of the fireworks at different venues across the country at 8pm.

Besides, a doa mahfil and discussion were held at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban in the evening while a documentary on the life and works of the Father of the Nation was also screened marking the day.

The President along with Bangabhaban officials attended the milad mahfil.

He also inaugurated a programme on Bangabandhu titled 'Muktir Mohanayok' in the evening.

Turning to Bangabandhu, the President said he was the symbol of principle and ideals in politics.

He said the new generation will be able to know about the life and works of Bangabandhu reading ‘The Unfinished Memoirs’ and ‘Karagarer Rojnamcha’ (Diary in Jail) written by Bangabandhu himself and other books written on him and thus will be able to contribute to the nation-building being inspired by the ideology of Bangabandhu.
 
“His ideals will remain as our source of eternal inspiration though Bangabandhu is not among us. Let the principle and ideals of Bangabandhu spread from generation to generation,“ he said.

Referring to the  March 7 in 1971 at the then Race Course Maidan, he said how an address can rouse the whole nation, inspire them to leap into the War of Liberation for independence, the historic March 7 speech by Bangabandhu is its unique example!

Unesco has recognized the 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu as part of the “World’s Documentary Heritage” and included it in the “Memory of the World International Register” on October 30, 2017 while “the Newsweek Magazine” in its Issue on April 5 in 1971 termed Bangabandhu as the “Poet of Politics” for this historic address.

Earlier, President Hamid paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the great leader by placing wreaths at the mazar (mausoleum) of Bangabandhu at Tungipara in Gopalganj.
