Prince Khalifa, who took office in 1971 after Bahrain gained independence, passed away last week.
Bahrain’s state-run news agency said he had been receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic in the United States, without elaborating.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina offered condolences on the passing away of Prince Khalifa. They sent separate messages to King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

A handout from the cabinet on Monday said the government has decided to observe a day’s national mourning on Tuesday.
The national flag will fly half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions and all public and private buildings and Bangladeshi missions.
Special prayers will be held for the salvation of Prince Khalifa at all mosques in Bangladesh and other places of worship.
