Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Muhammad Imran led the guests and members of the mission in placing wreaths and flower petals at a portrait of the late president.
One-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to him.
Presided over by the high commissioner the meeting was addressed also by Abhijit Rai, PS to Pranab Mukherjee and three renowned Indian journalists: Gautam Lahiri, Joyanta Ghosal and Smita Sharma.
Paying his tribute, Muhammad Imran spoke about Pranabâs deep love for Bangladesh and how deeply Bangladeshis loved and admired him as a true friend.
Quoting 15th century poet Chandidas, Imran said Pranab Mukherjee was a great believer in humanity.
âHe served people without looking at the social position or the nationality,â Imran said adding, âhe served the humanity and so he is being remembered beyond the geographical boundaries of nation, states even after his death.â
The other speakers remembered their long association with Bharat Ratna Pranab and paid their homage to him as a man who believed in the values of secularism, tolerance and pluralism.
A short documentary focusing on Pranabâs visits to Bangladesh both as president of India and as a citizen was shown at the meeting.
