Bangladesh observed the International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2021 on Saturday like elsewhere in the world.
The UN has designated May 29 as the International Day of UN Peacekeepers to recognise the contributions of civilian and uniformed personnel who perform the task of peacekeeping for it.

The theme of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2021 was "The road to a lasting peace: Leveraging the power of youth for peace and security" as many UN peacekeepers are aged between 18-29.
Bangladesh observed the day in the morning with "Peacekeepers Day Run 2021" arranged by air force bases, Bashar and Zahurul Haque.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen inaugurated the event in Dhaka and Major General Md Saiful Abedin in Chattogram, Inter Services Public Relation Directorate said.

Also, the families and relatives of the injured and martyred peacekeepers were honoured during a programme at Senakunja at 11am. One minute of silence was observed at the beginning of the programme, paying tribute to the fallen peacekeepers.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina virtually addressed the event as the chief guest. Dr Momen, Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed and UN Resident Coordinator Mia Seppo also spoke at the programme.
