Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) on Thursday launched a nationwide tree plantation campaign under its Green Response initiative, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
The “BDRCS Tree Plantation Campaign 2026” was formally inaugurated at the Society’s National Headquarters in Bara Moghbazar, Dhaka, by the Chairman of BDRCS, Barrister Md. Abdus Salam.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Managing Board Members, Secretary General, Directors, Heads of Departments, representatives of the Red Crescent Youth (RCY), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Partner National Societies (PNSs), and other distinguished guests.
Speakers at the event emphasized that environmental conservation and tree plantation are essential to addressing the growing impact of climate change.
The initiative reflects BDRCS’s solidarity with the Government of Bangladesh’s nationwide tree plantation campaign and reinforces the Society’s commitment to environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and climate-resilient communities under its Green Response initiative.
Speaking at the programme, Chairman Barrister Md. Abdus Salam said, “Protecting the environment is not only our responsibility but also our commitment to future generations. The Honorable Prime Minister's master plan to plant 25 crore (250 million) trees nationwide over five years is a highly timely and commendable initiative. A single tree does more than provide oxygen, it plays a vital role in reducing disaster risks, conserving biodiversity, and mitigating the impacts of climate change. Let us all work together to plant and protect trees for a greener, safer, and more climate-resilient Bangladesh.”
As part of this initiative, tree plantation programs will be implemented progressively through BDRCS’s 68 Units across 64 districts of Bangladesh. The activities will actively engage local administrations, Red Crescent Youth volunteers, life members, volunteers, and local communities, helping to strengthen public awareness on environmental conservation and promote community-led climate action across the country.
Through this campaign, BDRCS expects to contribute to increasing the country’s tree cover, maintaining ecological balance, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting the development of a greener, safer, and more climate-resilient Bangladesh.
