Mayor AKM Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter.
The trio were identified as Mamunur Rashid, inspector of Bogura municipality waste management department, Aminul Islam of the same department, and Slum Development Officer Rafiul Abedin.
Mahbubur Rahman said that the officials were directed to dispose the obsolete notes in the specified dumping zone of the municipality but they defied the order and dumped the notes under the Akhaura Bridge in Shahjahanpur which triggered huge agitation in the media.
They have to respond to the show cause notice within 24 hours, Mahbubur said.
On Tuesday, local branch of Bangladesh Bank dumped huge obsolete notes after cutting those in pieces by the Bagbari road near Jalshuka Kaura Bridge in Shahjahanpur upazila.
Locals who discovered the stash alerted law enforcement officials and media, leading to quite an uproar on social media.
