Be patient as govt works to revive fragile economy: Chief Whip

Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam on Friday urged people to remain patient and support the government as it works to revive what he described as a fragile economy.

“During this time of crisis, we need to remain patient,†he said while addressing the Bangladesh Magic Festival 2026 at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital on Friday.

The Chief Whip alleged that the previous government had siphoned Tk 30 lakh crore out of the country.

He said Tarique Rahman was working tirelessly to rebuild the country’s fragile economy.

Nurul Islam alleged that a minister of the previous government had built 356 houses abroad, while another had allegedly looted Tk 2 lakh crore alone.

He also alleged that more than Tk 1 lakh crore had been looted from the power sector and that those responsible had subsequently been granted indemnity.

The Chief Whip said the government was facing the challenge of rebuilding an economy left in a fragile state.

“Tarique Rahman is working tirelessly to bring the country’s economy back on its feet. By leading a simple life, he is setting an example for everyone,†he said.

He urged people to refrain from unnecessary criticism and extend cooperation to the government to ensure stability in Bangladesh.

The event was chaired by Minhazur Rahman Yubraj, president of the Sammilito Jadushilpi Sangstha.

Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed, director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy; Engineer Nur Azizur Rahman, chief engineer of Dhaka South City Corporation; and Magic Icon Ali Raj also addressed the programme.
