Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified its operations and intelligence activities across the country, including border areas, to maintain a stable supply of edible oil and curb hoarding, black marketing and smuggling.
Around 1:00am on Friday, a joint team of BGB’s Narayanganj Battalion (62 BGB) and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) raided a warehouse at Tarabo Kazipara intersection in Rupganj upazila of the district.
During the operation, it seized around 2,000 litres of loose soybean oil stored in nine barrels, BGB said in a press release.
Evidence was also found of illegal bottling and marketing using counterfeit labels such as “Bandhan Plus” and “Bismillah.”
BGB said it has seized about 5,425 litres of edible oil in the first three months of 2026. Previously, it recovered 13,177 litres in 2024 and 30,092 litres in 2025, totalling 43,269 litres.
In the current context, the force remains on high alert in border areas to prevent illegal stockpiling and smuggling of edible oil, the press release added.
To strengthen enforcement, it has increased regular and special patrols, intensified surveillance of suspected vehicles, boats and warehouses, and launched coordinated operations with the local administration, Bangladesh Army, RAB, police and customs authorities.
BGB is also raising awareness among local communities about the harmful impacts of smuggling and urging all to refrain from such illegal activities.
The force reiterated its commitment to protecting the country’s borders, ensuring a stable supply of essential commodities, and safeguarding consumer interests.
