Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General (DG) Major General AKM Nazmul Hasan said on Friday that his battalion is ready to control the overall situation including any unwanted incident across the country ahead of the forthcoming 12th parliamentary election.
He said this while replying to questions from reporters after visiting a temporary base camp set up in Dhaka’s Mirpur on Friday.
He called upon the BGB personnel to perform any responsibility bestowed on them with honesty and sincerity for the greater welfare of the country.
The BGB head directed his fellows to work with utmost professionalism to control the overall law and order situation and ensure a congenial environment so that voters can come to the polling stations spontaneously and cast their votes without any hindrance.
A total of 1,155 platoons of the BGB have been working in 487 base camps across the country since December 29 to control the internal law and order situation in the country marking the election, he informed.
Addressing the first time deployment of the BGB force in island Sandwip upazila of Chattogram, he said on an average 700 platoons of BGB are deployed in the field at any time of the day and conducting operational activities.
Moreover, specially trained BGB dog squads are working in different parts of the country to avoid sabotage acts across the country, the DG said.
The BGB chief said the Rapid Action Team (RAT), a special force of the BGB, is working in the field to take effective and quick measures by reaching the spot using any alley-lane to prevent election violence.
In addition, BGB's Quick Response Force (QRF) is also ready, which has the ability to be deployed to deal with any unwanted situation in any part of the country through the battalion’s sophisticated helicopters, he informed.
The BGB is fully prepared to deal with any situation during the election in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, the BGB DG said.
He also expressed his firm conviction that any sabotage will be suppressed with a firm hand to ensure security of life and property.
Senior officials of BGB headquarters and sector commanders of BGB's Dhaka sector and other officials were present during the visit.
