Cox’s Bazar, Sept 4 (UNB) – Four members of Myanmar's Border Guard Police (BGP), who were detained recently for intruding into Bangladesh, were handed over to Myanmar authorities through Ghumdhum border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban on Wednesday.
They returned home through the Bangladesh-Myanmar friendship bridge following a flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and BGP at noon.
BGB members detained the BGP men from Teknaf on August 25 along with a speedboat, firearms and ammunition.
A 12-member BGB team, led by Lt Col Ali Haidar Azad Ahmed of battalion-34 and Lt Col Faisal Hasan Khan of battalion-2, represented Bangladesh at the flag meeting.
On the other hand, BGP commanding officer Kaw Win led the 10-member Myanmar delegation.
At the meeting, the Myanmar side admitted that the four BGP members entered Bangladesh illegally.
