Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members seized 246,000 Yaba tablets, a foreign pistol and five rounds of ammunition during a special operation in the Ghumdhum border area of Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban.
A BGB team, led by Major Mehedi Hasan Ashik, deputy commander of the Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), launched the operation around 11:00pm on Sunday, acting on intelligence that a group of drug traffickers was planning to smuggle a large consignment of Yaba tablets, firearms and ammunition into Bangladesh from Myanmar.

During the operation, BGB members spotted several suspected smugglers approaching Nayapara near border pillar No. 31 around 12:15am on Monday.
When the BGB personnel challenged them, the suspected smugglers fled the scene, leaving behind a foreign pistol, five rounds of ammunition and 246,000 Yaba tablets.
Lt Col SM Khairul Alam, commander of the Cox’s Bazar Battalion, said the BGB is committed not only to guarding the border but also to preventing drug and arms smuggling.
