They gathered at the premises of deputy commissioner’s office in Jashore and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the DC.

Around ten lakh people of Abhaynagar, Monirampur, Keshabpur and sadar upazila of Jashore, Dumuria and Phultala of Khulna district and Tala upazia in Satkhira suffer for several months during the rainy season every year as the rivers of the area become silted, the committee leaders said.
The local rivers -Sree, Hari, Teka and Mukteswari were at edge of death due to the faulty construction of sluice gates built in 60s at Bhabadah in Jashore, they said.
Iqbal Kabir Jahid, adviser of the committee, and other leaders of the committee- Baikuntha Bihari Roy, Chatanya Kumar Paul, Jakir Hossain Habi and Paritosh Kumar Biswas were present there among others.
