“The perpetrators involved in the Bhola incident will be given exemplary punishment to check the reoccurrence of such incident in the future,” he said.
The minister made the remark while talking to reporters after inaugurating an international seminar on flight safety at a city hotel.
Four people were killed and about 200 others injured on Sunday in a clash between police and demonstrating locals in Borhanuddin upazila in Bhola, demanding the punishment of a youth for allegedly hurting religious sentiments on Facebook.
Police and locals said messages containing derogatory remarks about Allah and Prophet Muhammad were sent to several people from a hacked Facebook ID of Biplob Chandra Shuvo, triggering a widespread protest.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said no one should create any tension posting derogatory remarks on Facebook hacking anyone’s ID. “It’s also a condemnable and punishable offence.”
He said a vested quarter has tried to create a chaos in the country carrying out such incident as such attempts were made in the past as well.
Terming the incident regrettable, the minister said those who carried out it are the enemies of country, society and people.
Replying to another question about the alleged involvement of a local MP in the Bhola incident, he said the offenders have spread such an allegation as part of their efforts to divert the incident to a different direction and mislead people.
About upcoming conference of Jubo League, the youth front of Bangladesh Awami League, the minister said the conference will help bring dynamism into the organisation and free it from stigma.
As his attention was drawn to an allegation against Rashed Khan Menon of taking money from expelled Juba League leader Samrat over the casino business, he said it will be regretful, if the allegation is proved true.
