Discussing at the webinar titled- “Bengali language in urban, regional and rural planning”, the planners said if the planning document is prepared in Bengali language than general people can participate in the planning process spontaneously.

BIP president Professor Dr Akter Mahmud chaired the webinar while its General Secretary Dr Adil Mohammed Khan moderated the function.

Dr Akter Mahmud said there is no alternative to use Bengali language to make urban planning people-oriented and universal.

“BIP has been working for long days to increase the practice of Bengali language. It’s appreciating job for us that we could publish a book for using the language in planning process,” he also said.

Dr Adil Mohammed said the book has been scarified to the martyrs those who lost their valuable lives during the language movement in 1952.

“The limit of use of Bengali language should increase in order to reach it to general people in all planning. The planning issues can make the application more appealing to the public,” he also added.

He further said many complex words are used in planning documents that general people can’t understand. Bengali language should use more instead of English terminology in all mega planning documents for the sake of people’s participation.

Planner and BIP joint secretary Mohammad Rasel Kabir said the UNESCO unanimously recognised February 21 as the International Mother Language Day November 17, 1999.

“We could not priories Bengali Language properly becoming a dependency country. Now we have strengthened economically so it’s time to flourish our language. So BIP took the initiative,” he added.

Kabir said they decorated the book like a dictionary where 1584 planning terminologies have been included in 75 pages. “Now the book is uploaded virtually. We will publish it as hard book soon,” he also said.

Founding president of BIP Prof Dr Golam Rahman; convener of Advisory Council Prof Dr AKM Abul Kalam; BIP Vice president Muhammad Arifur Rahman among others also took part in the virtual programme.
