Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday said that BNP leaders are reluctant about party chairperson Khaleda Zia's freedom, since otherwise they would fight in court with prominent lawyers.
“If Khaleda gets released, Fakhrul’s role will be ended. That’s why they don’t want Khaleda’s release,” said the information minister.
The minister made the remarks while speaking at a discussion meeting on the occasion of Bangabandhu’s103rd birth anniversary and National Children's Day at Krishibid Institution auditorium in the capital's Khamarbari.
“Few days ago BNP leaders said that Khaleda was so ill that she would die, if she didn’t fly abroad for treatment. It seemed that they wanted Khaleda to die,” he added.
Hasan Mahmud said Mirza Fakhrul talks as if the country has not progressed in the last 14 years.
“They go to their rallies through Padma Bridge and say nothing has happened in the country. They use flyovers to go to their rallies and say nothing has happened in the country,” he said.
Dhaka District Awami League President Benazir Ahmed MP chaired the meeting while Prime Minister's private industry and investment advisor Salman F. Rahman, Awami League Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam MP, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua and other leaders also spoke there.
