“The fact is that Ziaur Rahman was deeply involved in the assassination of Bangabandhu...it's as clear as the daylight...BNP and Mirza Fakhrul are speaking on behalf of the killers,” he said.
Hasan Mahmud made the remarks after an exchange of views with leaders of the Television Actors’ Association and Darshak Shrota Pathak Foundation at the Secretariat.
He drew attention to the recent remarks of the BNP Secretary General and said Zia's involvement in the brutal August 15 massacre is clear as history itself is the witness.
“As you know, Colonel Farooq and Colonel Rashid said in an interview with the BBC that when they started this conspiracy of killing Bangabandhu, they approached Ziaur Rahman who gave them the go-ahead,” the minister said.
He said, “Had Zia not been the main accomplice of Khandaker Mushtaq and the mastermind of Bangabandhu's assassination, then why did he make Zia the army chief after the assassination?”
The Information Minister also referred to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s directive to provide timely assistance to artistes and other artisans of different sectors.
He also said work is underway to ensure the welfare of all artistes under Shilpi Kalyan Trust.
Television Actors’ Association President Shahiduzzaman Selim, General Secretary Ahsan Habib Nasim and Darshak Shrota Pathak Foundation chief Shahidul Alam Sachu also attended the meeting.
