The body of a man who went missing after falling into the Meghna River while getting off a launch at Shatnal launch terminal in Matlab Uttar upazila was recovered on Saturday, a day after the incident.
The deceased was identified as Md Robin, 36, son of Haider Ali of Premtala village in Naria upazila of Shariatpur.
Mozammel Haque PPM, in-charge of Beltali Naval Police said the body was recovered from beneath the jetty around 2:30pm.
Members of the Chandpur district diving team recovered the body from underneath the jetty, he said.
The body was later sent to the morgue of Chandpur General Hospital for autopsy, the police official added.
Robin had been living with his parents in Narayanganj and worked at a garment factory. He lost his job a few months ago.
He was travelling from Narayanganj to his in-laws' home at Nabipur Mollabari in Baganbari Union of Matlab Uttar when he fell into the river.
Robin’s wife, Nasrin, said they have a five-year-old daughter.
According to police, Robin went missing around 11am Friday after accidentally falling into the Meghna while getting off the Makhbul launch, which was travelling from Narayanganj to Chandpur, at the Shatnal launch terminal.
His body was recovered from beneath the jetty a day later.
