The body of a woman who had been missing for four days was recovered from a pond in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat on Tuesday morning, police said.
The deceased, identified as 33-year-old Suraiya Sharmin Brishti, was a housewife who also worked on an outsourcing basis at Narail Sadar Hospital. She was a resident of Alabhatpur in Narail town.
Brishti’s body was found floating in a pond behind a house in Joypur village under Naldha Moubhog union, according to police.
Md Sajeul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narail Sadar Police Station, said that Fakirhat police are investigating the case. Her body was sent to Bagerhat District Hospital for an autopsy before being handed over to her family.

According to Brishti’s family, she had been missing since January 31. Her mother, Sabejan Begum, filed a general diary (GD) with Narail Sadar Police Station on February 1, reporting that Brishti had left home that day, saying she was going to Jashore, but never returned.
OC Sajeul Islam said that the cause of death, including the possibility of murder, could only be confirmed after the autopsy results are available.
