A portion of the body of a Royal Bengal Tiger was recovered from near Kabar Ali canal in the Sundarbans in Sarankhola upazila on Monday.
Mohamamd Belayet Hossain, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Sundarbans East zone, said the forest officials found the body part of a Royal Bengal Tiger near Kakilmuni camp around 11 am and recovered it.
The lower portion of the tiger’s body might have been eaten by crocodiles, said DFO.
The forest official suspected that the tiger might have died few days ago due to old age complications, he said adding that an autopsy will be conducted on it.
According to the Forest official, 22 tigers died in the Sundarbans from 2001 till date. Of them, ten were killed by poachers, five were killed in mass beating, six due to old age and one during cyclonic ‘Sidr’.
