Brac Bank has partnered with Prothom Alo Trust for its women-only scholarship programme, "Aporajeyo TARA".
According to the bank, its epoch-making corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, "Aporajeyo TARA", strives to champion women's tertiary education and assist them in reaching the pinnacle of their dreams.
Brac Bank PLC and Prothom Alo Trust signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on November 28, at the Prothom Alo Office in Dhaka.
This scholarship will facilitate education and empower female students, mainly from rural areas.
Sabbir Hossain, deputy managing director, chief operating officer and chairperson of the Sustainable Finance Committee, and Ekram Kabir, head of communications, signed the agreement on behalf of Brac Bank.
On behalf of Prothom Alo Trust, Rupali Chowdhury, president, and Mahbooba Sultana, coordinator, signed the deal.
Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman and other officials from both organisations were also present at the ceremony.
Brac Bank joined Prothom Alo Trust's "AdommoMedhabi" Scholarship in 2010 and has, to date, supported the education of 941 male and female students.
This year, the bank launched its first-ever female-only scholarship, "Aporajeyo TARA".
With Prothom Alo Trust, the bank will support the higher education of 50 female students with financial plight yearly for their HSC and undergraduation (subject to fulfilment of conditions) studies.
Only women, women with disabilities, and transgender women can avail of the "Aporajeyo TARA" Scholarship.
