Unidentified people on Monday afternoon set fire to a double-decker bus of state-owned BRTC in Dhaka’s Mirpur 10 on the second day of the 48-hour countrywide hartal enforced by BNP and like-minded opposition parties.
The attack on the double-decker bus was reported around 2:35 pm, said Ershad Hossain, control room officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters.
Responding to the call, one firefighting unit rushed to the spot to douse the fire, he said.
During an operation, Md Sajedul Alam Tutul (45), joint convener of Swechchhasebak Dal, was arrested from Mirpur's Rupnagar area after the driver of the BRTC bus identified him as a suspect, said Md Jasim Uddin Mollah, deputy commissioner of police (Mirpur Division).
The accused is being questioned. Legal action in this regard is in process, he added.
