In the morning, they took position in front of academic building on the campus and staged protests seeking ouster of VC Prof Khondoker Nasiruddin.
They accused the VC of corruption, irregularities, sexual harassment and nepotism in recruiting teachers and other employees.
The BSMRSTU authorities had ordered students to vacate the residential halls and extended the Durga Puja vacation from September 22 till October 3.
But the students continued their demonstration defying the order.
Meanwhile, another assistant proctor of the university – Nazmul Haque Khan – stepped down citing personal reasons. So far, three assistant proctors resigned after the student demonstration began.
Besides, an UGC probe body visited the campus on Wednesday and Thursday. They received views from both the demonstrators and officials of the university.
Dr Md Nur Uddin, registrar of the university, said the UGC probe body sought documents on alleged irregularities.
The students on Friday stopped outsiders from entering the university.
BSMRSTU’s decision to suspend Fatema-tuz-Zinia, also the university correspondent of the Daily Sun, on September 10 for her ‘objectionable’ writings on Facebook triggered the student protest. The university authorities revoked the suspension order on September 18.
