The Minister also informed that telecasting of this station will also begin through terrestrial side-by-side satellite.
He was speaking as chief guest at a roundtable organised on the occasion of World Television Day 2019 at Chattogram Circuit House.
At present, the BTV Chattogram centre can be seen at home and abroad only as cable television. It will also be upgraded into a terrestrial channel within the next couple of months, said the minister.
Stating that the TV journalists must be given legal protection just like the print media journalists, Dr Hasan Mahmud said, “those who work in print media with wage board, there is legal protection for them but till now there is no such legal protection in the television arena. We are working on this issue”.
Chattogram City Mayor AZM Nasir Uddin and Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Md Abdul Mannan spoke at the programme as special guests.
BTV Deputy Director General (News) Anup Kumar Khasthagir, BTV Chattogram centre General Manager Nitai Kumar Bhattacharaya and President of TV Journalist Association of Chattogram Nasir Uddin Tota, also spoke at the program.
