The deceased was identified as Rakib Hossain, 25, son of Sofi Ullah, of Amanullahpur union in the upazila. He was the joint general secretary of BCL union unit.
Harun-ur-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Begamganj Police Station, said “Around 8pm on Sunday, leaders of Jamaat-Shibir attacked BCL leaders and activists in Amanullahpur Bazar area and stabbed them indiscriminately and also opened fire
leaving Rakib, Farukh Ahmed, 42, Masud Alam, 30, Ibrahim, 30 and Akram Hossain, 24 severely injured.”
Rakib was taken to DMCH on that night and went through a surgery on Monday morning but succumbed to his injuries at 1:30pm, the OC added.
Amaullahpur UP chairman and union AL president Arifur Rahman said that another BCL leader Habib was admitted to Health Care Hospital with bullet injuries in Dhaka.
The OC also informed that police arrested four activists of Jamaat-Shibir and produced them before the court on Monday noon.
