But the river is showing signs of life as the monsoon brings a stronger flow of relatively cleaner water.
The increased flow has given the river a fresher look, drawing people to its banks and waters.

On Friday, people of different ages were seen taking spontaneous dips in the Buriganga, enjoying moments of respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.

For a while, the river appeared less like a heavily polluted waterway and more like a place where people could pause, cool off and find a little relief amid the heat and noise of the capital.
