Yaba – a combination of methamphetamine (a powerful and addictive stimulant) and caffeine sold as cheap red or pink pills – first appeared in Bangladesh in 2002. Since then, its use and misuse have rapidly increased.
Yaba, which means crazy medicine in Thai, is said to be manufactured illicitly in Myanmar and is smuggled into Bangladesh in the far southeast of the country.
