Five people, including two women, were killed and another woman was injured in a road accident between a bus and a CNG run-autorickshaw on Sherpur-Mymensingh highway in Sherpur Sadar upazila on Sunday morning, said police.
One of the deceased was identified as CNG driver Lokman Akmal, 45, a resident of Kamari area of Sherpur Sadar upazila.
Sherpur Sadar police station’s officer-in-charge Jobaidul Alam said the Dhaka-bound bus of Rifat Paribahan from Kurigram’s Rowmari upazila collided with the autorickshaw from the opposite direction in Safmari area under Bhatshala union around 11:30am, leaving the five dead on the spot and another critically injured.

The injured was first taken to a private hospital in the upazila and later shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital as her condition worsened, the OC said.
The vehicular movement on the highway remained suspended for around one hour due to the accident, he said, adding that normalcy returned after the accident-hit vehicles were removed from the road.

The bus driver managed to flee the scene but locals seized the vehicle, the police officer added.
