A case has been filed over a road accident in Mymensingh city that killed seven people, including four members of the same family.
Mobarak Ali, a resident of Darihamidpur village in Jamalpur who lost his family members in the accident, lodged a complaint with Kotwali Model Police Station on Friday night, accusing the bus driver, said Mohammad Shibirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station.
The complaint was registered as a case against the unidentified driver after midnight, he said.
However, police have yet to arrest the bus driver.
The OC said police seized both the bus and the CNG-run auto-rickshaw and took them to the police station immediately after the accident.
The bus driver and his assistants fled the scene after the crash.
Police are trying to arrest the bus driver, the OC added.
The bodies of the seven victims were handed over to their relatives around 10pm Friday after autopsies at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
The accident occurred around 1:30pm Friday when a Rajib Paribahan bus, which had left Dhaka for Jamalpur, collided with a passenger CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction in the Gandrapa area of Akua Bypass Road in Mymensingh city.
The auto-rickshaw was crushed in the collision, killing all seven occupants on the spot.
All seven victims were residents of Jamalpur.
Four members of the same family were identified as Rashida Begum, 70, of Darihamidpur village in Jamalpur Sadar upazila; her son Mofazzal Hossain, 50; Mofazzal's daughter Marjina Akter, 25; and Marjina's son Minan, 5.
The other three victims were CNG auto-rickshaw driver Md Sujon Ali, 44, of Bir Gobindapur village, and Akram Ali, 51, and his wife Momota Begum, 39, of Badechandi village, all in Jamalpur Sadar upazila.
Meanwhile, local residents staged a protest in Jamalpur town on Friday night and hold a gaibana janaza over the deaths.
The bodies were taken to their respective homes in Jamalpur on Friday night. They were buried after separate janazas on Saturday morning.
