The cabinet on Monday approved the list of public holidays for 2027, with 15 days of general holidays and 14 days of holidays under executive orders.
However, the actual number of holidays will be 22 days as seven of the total fall on weekends.
Cabinet Secretary Dr Nasimul Ghani disclosed the decision at a briefing after a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat in the evening.
He said the proposed calendar includes 15 general holidays on the occasion of national days and important religious festivals of different communities.
Four of these holidays will fall on weekly holidays – two Fridays and two Saturdays.
The calendar also includes 14 days of holidays under executive orders on the occasion of Bangla New Year and various important religious festivals. Three of these holidays will coincide with weekly holidays, one Friday and two Saturdays.
Government employees will also be allowed to enjoy up to three days of optional leave during the year on the occasion of their respective religious festivals.
Besides, employees belonging to small ethnic communities working in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and elsewhere will be entitled to two days of optional leave to celebrate their principal social festival, such as Biju, Boisabi or similar festivities.
