A vibrant 'Cat Show' drew a gathering of feline lovers at the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Saturday, marking World Pet Day with a call to promote animal welfare and awareness.
Organised by 'Pet Lovers of BAU,' the exceptional event commenced at 4:00 PM at the university’s helipad, drawing numerous cat owners and enthusiasts from various parts of Mymensingh city.
The programme featured engaging segments including a cat ramp show and a 'dress as you like' competition, where felines were showcased in creative costumes.
Organisers said that the initiative was designed to foster a sense of compassion toward animals and spread awareness regarding the proper care and management of pets.
The event was graced by BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A K Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan as the chief guest, while Student Affairs Adviser Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahidul Haque and Proctor Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Alim attended as special guests.

Prof. Dr. Md. Mahmudul Alam, Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, emphasised that the show served as a vital awareness platform.
He said that as pets become integral parts of human lives, educating owners on scientific nutrition, vaccination, and regular health check-ups is essential for modern animal husbandry.
Beyond the entertainment, the 'Cat Show' provided tangible benefits for the animal participants, including free health screenings and vaccinations. Registered participants were also provided with commemorative T-shirts, cat neck-belts, and snacks.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bhuiyan lauded the university’s role in animal patronage, urging pet owners to follow scientific guidelines to maintain a healthy and harmonious environment within their homes.
The event concluded with the declaration of the 'Cat of the Show' and an exciting raffle draw for the attendees, with organisers expressing their intent to host similar large-scale events in the future.
