Celebrating the season of Spring’s vibrancy, the Faculty of Fine Art (Charukola) at Dhaka University turned into a colorful spectacle on Friday morning, hosting the traditional cultural event of Chhayanaut under the shade of the Bakul trees, as devoted cultural enthusiasts gathered to welcome the ‘King of Seasons’ through Chhayanaut’s annual Spring Festival.

As the southern breeze sweeps through nature, the gentle rustling of falling leaves and the vibrant hues of Palash, Shimul, and Krishnachura trees announce the arrival of Spring after a majestic winter. Celebrating the offerings, the event featured an array of diverse cultural performances, including music, dance, and poetry recitations, captivating the audience.

The event was adorned with the lyrical and poetic essence of Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Dwijendralal Roy, and Atul Prasad Sen, and the cultural segment commenced with a group performance of the timeless classic “Ore Grihobashi, Khol Dwar Khol,” a call to embrace the festive spirit of spring. Dancers performed in harmony with the melody, adding to the visual splendor.

Several solo performances took center stage following that. Iffat Binte Nazir captivated the audience with “Boshonte Aaj Dhorar Chitto Holo Utola,” Srabanti Dhar sang Dwijendralal Roy’s composition “Aye Re Boshonto Tor Kiron Makha Pakha Tule,” and Somudro Shubhom performed “Piu Piu Birohi Papia Bole.”

A group rendition of “Amra Maloy Batashe Bhese Jabo” added to the musical enchantment, while Sejuti Barua’s “Amar Mallika Bone Jokhon Prothom Dhoreche Koli” and Nasima Shaheen Fancy’s “Futlo Jedin Fagune Hai, Prothom Golap Kuri” further enriched the setlist.

Interwoven with musical performances, renowned elocutionist Bhaskar Bandyopadhyay presented poetry recitations, setting a poetic tone; this was followed by ATM Jahangir’s rendition of “Madhur Boshonto Esechhe Madhur Milon Ghotate.”

A synchronized dance and choral performance to “Fagun Haway Haway Korechi Je Daan” enchanted the audiences, and Sanjay Kabiraj mesmerized with “Boshonto Fulbone Saje Bonobhumi Sundori Chorone,” while Sutapa Saha performed “Neel Akasher Kone Oi Bujhi Aaj Shihoron Lage.”

Another group rendition of “Dola Lagilo Dokhinar Bone Bone” further uplifted the atmosphere, while Partho Pratim Roy delivered “Aha, Aji E Boshonte Eto Phul Phote,” followed by Aishwarya Samaddar’s evocative interpretation of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s “Chaitali Chandni Raate.”

The festivity continued with Avoya Dutta’s “Jodi Tare Nai Chini Go,” and the audience swayed to the group song performance of “Aji Boshonto Jagroto Dware Dware.” Jannat-e-Ferdous Lucky sang “Phul Faguner Elo Morshum,” while Dalia Ahmed recited Kazi Nazrul’s ‘Boshonti’ poem.

Rezaul Karim then performed “Aslo Jokhon Fuler Fagun,” and Sushmita Debnath Shuchi sang “Jabo Na Jabo Na Ghore,” and the final group dance sequence was set to “Rangiye Diye Jao Jao Go Ebar Jabar Age.”

The vibrant festival concluded with the national anthem, leaving the audience with a lingering sense of seasonal bliss and cultural reverence, as Chhayanaut’s traditional spring celebration once again proved to be a testament to Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage and the timeless allure of nature’s most poetic season.
