Chief Adviser hands over Purbachal-plot deed to Sagar-Runi’s son


Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has handed over the deed of a three-katha plot in Purbachal to Mahir Sarowar Megh, son of the slain journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

The deed was handed over during a simple ceremony at the State Guest House Jamuna on Thursday afternoon, according to the Chief Adviser’s press wing.

Journalist Sagar Sarowar had applied for the plot in 2004 and was officially allotted it in 2005.

Although the full payment was made in 2009, the previous Awami League government did not transfer the ownership to his family.

Now, the rightful inheritors of the land are Sagar Sarowar’s mother Saleha Monir and his son Mahir Sarowar Megh.

At that time, Prof Yunus enquired about the long-stalled investigation into the murder of Sagar and Runi.

He expressed concerns over the delay, stating, “Such protracted investigation creates adverse reactions among the people; they become disappointed with the legal system.”

Prof Yunus urged the authorities concerned to complete the investigation without further delay.

Quoting the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan said that much crucial evidence has already been lost due to the prolonged investigation.

During the event, Megh presented the Chief Adviser with a jersey and bag designed by himself.

Advisers Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Farida Akhtar, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority Engineer Md Riazul Islam and Meherun Runi’s brother, Nawazesh Alam Roman, were, among others, present.
