Chief Whip of the Parliament Md Nurul Islam on Sunday inaugurated the excavation works of the Kroke Canal in Barguna under a nationwide programme aimed at dredging and re-excavating rivers, canals and water bodies.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to enhance environmental protection and strengthen climate resilience across the country, according to a press release.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Md Oli Ullah, a Member of Parliament elected from Islami Andolon Bangladesh, along with local public representatives, political leaders and residents.
According to officials, the programme aligns with a key electoral commitment of the current government led by Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, who has pledged to implement large-scale excavation and restoration of water bodies nationwide.
The project is expected to improve water flow, mitigate waterlogging, and contribute to sustainable environmental management in vulnerable regions like Barguna.
