A two-and-a-half-year-old boy drowned in a canal in Alatuli Union of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on Monday morning.
The deceased Abdur Rahman, was the son of Abdul Alam of Narendrapur village in Shahjahanpur Union of the upazila.
Family members said Abdur Rahman had gone to his maternal grandparents’ home in Raninagar Bilkandi of Alatuli Union two days ago.
He fell into the canal near the house around 10am. Relatives rescued him and rushed him to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Ekramul Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station, said the body was handed over to the family after completing due procedures.
