The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police has sought a seven-day remand of film actor Ashraful Haque Don in a murder case filed over the death of film star Salman Shah.

Sub-Inspector Shah Alam of the prosecution department confirmed the matter on Monday.

He said CID Inspector Mujibur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, filed the remand petition on August 20.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana fixed August 27 for a hearing on the remand plea.

Immigration police arrested Don at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on August 9 and later handed him over to the CID. He was sent to jail the same day. A court rejected his bail petition on August 12.

On October 20 last year, Salman Shah's maternal uncle Mohammad Alomgir Kumkum filed the murder case with Ramna Model Police Station.

The other accused in the case include Salman Shah's former wife Samira Haque, her mother Latifa Haque Luchi, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Debit, Javed and Faruk, as well as Ruby, Abdul Sattar, Saju and Rezvi Ahmed alias Farhad.

Earlier, on October 20, a court ordered the officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station to register the previously filed unnatural death case over Salman Shah's death as a murder case.

Salman Shah, whose real name was Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar Emon, died on September 6, 1996. His father, Kamruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, had initially filed an unnatural death case over his death.

On July 24, 1997, his father sought to have the case converted into a murder case, alleging that his son had been killed.

The court subsequently directed the CID to investigate both the unnatural death case and the allegation of murder together.
