Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials have seized 631 cartons of foreign cigarettes, a mobile phone and three laptops from the baggage of three passengers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The seized goods, valued at around Tk 32.40 lakh, were recovered during an operation conducted on Monday based on confidential information received by the CIID director general, according to a press release.
A team of officials from the Airport Customs Intelligence and Investigation Circle (C-shift) took position at the airport following the intelligence input and conducted screening and searches of baggage of passengers arriving on Air Arabia flight G9 571 from Sharjah.
During the search, 320 cartons of cigarettes, a mobile phone and a laptop were recovered from the baggage of passenger Mohammed Shahin.
Another 125 cartons of cigarettes and a laptop were recovered from the baggage of K M Fozol Haque, while 186 cartons of cigarettes and a laptop were seized from the baggage of Belayet Bhuiyan Hossain.
The CIID said its operations at the airport are continuing to prevent smuggling and misuse of baggage facilities through intelligence gathering, passenger profiling and close surveillance.
