A college student suffered serious burn injuries after a fire, believed to have been caused by a gas leak, broke out in Board Bazar area of Gazipur city early Wednesday.
The injured, Mukta Akter, 18, daughter of Nantu Mia, is a resident of the area and an intermediate-level student at a local college.
Iqbal Hasan, a senior officer at Bhogra Fire Station, said gas had accumulated in the kitchen overnight due to a pipeline leak, with all doors and windows shut.
When Mukta attempted to light the stove in the early morning, an explosion occurred with a big bang, leaving her badly burnt and damaging household valuables.

Locals rushed to the scene after hearing the blast, rescued Mukta and took her to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, he said.
Other family members were present in the flat during the explosion, but they did not suffer serious injuries, he added.
A fire service team visited the scene later in the morning.
