Commerce State Minister Ahsanul Islam Titu has declared consumer protection as a top priority at the upcoming 28th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2024.
Speaking at a press conference in Purbachal, Titu outlined measures to safeguard the rights of consumers during the fair.
The Consumer Rights Protection Directorate will lead a campaign to ensure consumer safety, with dedicated officials overseeing rights protection. To facilitate quick response, complaint boxes and help desks will be strategically placed throughout the fairgrounds.
Titu applauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership in development initiatives and stressed the government's commitment to diversifying exports, particularly in the garment sector. The jute and leather industries also received special attention for year-round development.
International participation will be substantial, with 16 to 18 pavilions from countries such as Turkey, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Iran, India, and Pakistan. The trade fair aims to enhance e-commerce services for the benefit of the entire nation.
Security measures are comprehensive, with a significant deployment of police, armed police battalions, and RAB forces. Regular patrols will ensure safety both inside and outside the fairgrounds. Transportation arrangements, including metro rail and elevated expressway services, have been coordinated to facilitate easy access for visitors, especially from Uttara.
The junior minister assured strict actions against unauthorized shops and substandard products.
Violations will result in the suspension of sales or displays, and consumer rights will be vigorously upheld.
Commercial counselors from nearly every country will also be present to facilitate global trade and product branding.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce, the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), and other key stakeholders attended the press conference.
