Three people, including a policeman, have tested positive for coronavirus in Khagrachhari.
Civil Surgeon Dr Nupur Kanti Das said Abdul Hye, a policeman, and two residents of Mahalchhari upazila were found infected with the virus.
Abdul Aziz, superintendent of Khagrachhari Police, said Hye was recently transferred from Pabna and joined his new workplace on May 4.
He was taken to the isolation unit at Khagrachhari Police Lines after his arrival and the authorities concerned collected samples from him on May 5.
Dr Mridul Kanti Tripura, Health and Family Planning Officer of Mahalchhari upazila Health Complex, said samples of two people including a woman were collected on May 7 and sent for lab testing.
Both of them tested positive for coronavirus, according to their reports on Wednesday.
The woman got admitted to a hospital with respiratory problem on May 7 but fled on that day after conducting tests, said Dr Mridul.
Besides, a young man who was diagnosed with coronavirus, the first case in the district, has recovered and returned home.
According to the Police Headquarters sources, 1,926 police members were infected with coronavirus until Wednesday.
The health authorities confirmed 1,162 new cases and 19 deaths – highest for a single day – on Wednesday. So far, the country has recorded 17,822 coronavirus cases and 269 deaths.
