The deceased was identified as AFM Jahed, 41, a traffic constable of Chattogram Metropolitan Police and son of Jainal Abedin of Sitakunda Upazila.
Md Abu Bakar Siddique, deputy commissioner (public relations) of the CMP, said the constable died while receiving treatment at Chittagong General Hospital.
“Samples were collected for test as he developed symptoms similar to that of coronavirus,” said the deputy commissioner.
SM Tabrej, younger brother of the deceased policeman, said his brother had been suffering from high fever.
He was taken to the hospital on Tuesday after he complained of breathing complications.
Members of Bangladesh Police, along with other law enforcement agencies, have been infected with coronavirus as they are playing the role of frontline fighter during the pandemic.
Coronavirus cases in Bangladesh rose to 1,49,258 with detection of 3,775 fresh patients on Wednesday.
A total of 1,888 people have so far died from the virus in the country.
