The Council of Advisers on Saturday offered prayers seeking the speedy recovery of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at a special meeting held at the Chief Adviser’s Office.
Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain conducted the prayer session, according to Chief Adviser’s press wing.
Meanwhile, the meeting, chaired by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, gave in principle and final approval to the draft of the Foreign Donations (Voluntary Activities) Regulation (Amendment) Ordinance 2025.
The amendments bring several changes to existing provisions, simplify NGO registration procedures and ease conditions for releasing foreign funds.
Under the revised law, foreign donations of up to Tk 50 lakh per year will no longer require separate approval, making the law more stakeholder-friendly.
The draft of the Police Commission Ordinance 2025 was also placed before the council.
The Adviser Council instructed that the draft be presented in a more detailed and revised form at the next meeting.
Expatriates’ Welfare Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul said the remaining 24 Bangladeshis detained in the United Arab Emirates on charges of participating in the July uprising will be released soon.
They are expected to return home within the next two to three days, he said.
