A couple died after being electrocuted by a live-wire set up in a crop land to prevent wild animals in Jajira upazila of Shariatpur district on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Idris Kha, 65, of Baliakandi village and Shefali Begum, 60, wife of Idris.
Quoting local people, Nakib Akram, officer-in-charge of Padma Bridge South Police Station, said Idris set up live-wire around his maize crop field to prevent porcupine from destroying maize.
On Saturday morning, both Idris and his wife Shefali got electrocuted when they entered into their field keeping the electric wire on mistakenly and died on the spot.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to the local hospital morgue for an autopsy.
