A Dhaka court on Friday placed BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and the party’s medical cell convenor Zahiruddin Swapon on remand for six days each, in a police constable murder case related to the violence that erupted on the day of their recent rally in Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jakir-Al-Farabi granted the remand rejecting their bail prayer.
Earlier, the investigation officer of the case Tarikul Islam, also an inspector of Detective Branch, produced the accused before the court with a plea for 10-day remand each.
After hearing the prosecution and the defence, the court granted the remand.

Counsel Tapos Kumar Pal represented the state while senior lawyers Mohsin Miah and Syed Joynul Abedin Mesbah stood for the accused in the court.
Earlier in the day, a DB team arrested Amir Khasru from Gulshan in the capital, as the fourth accused in the police murder case.

Police constable Amirul Islam was killed in a brutal attack, allegedly by BNP activists while on duty during the party’s grand rally on October 28, which witnessed deadly violence in Nayapaltan and nearby areas.
Later, a murder case was filed accusing 164 BNP men including its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir with the Paltan Police Station.
