A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former Member of Parliament (MP) for Netrokona-3 (Kendua-Atpara) constituency Iftikhar Uddin Talukdar Pinto, his wife Ismat Ara Minu, two daughters Sumaiya Mourami Ifti and Saiba Mourami Ishma, and son Ibnam Iftikhar, in connection with a corruption investigation.

On Monday, Senior Special Judge of Dhaka, Mohammad Zakir Hossain Galib, passed the order in response to a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

ACC’s Public Relations Officer Aktarul Islam said, “The ACC requested the court to impose a travel ban on Iftikhar Uddin Talukdar Pinto, his wife, two daughters, and son. The court has granted the petition.”

The ACC's Assistant Director Rakibul Hayat, who is investigating the case, filed the petition seeking a travel ban on the family members.

The petition stated that Iftikhar Uddin Talukdar Pinto is under investigation for allegations of embezzling funds from various development projects, including TR, Kabikha, and Kabitas, through misuse of power, irregularities, and corruption. These funds were reportedly used to acquire assets beyond known income, both in his name and that of his family members.

During the investigation, it was discovered through confidential sources that the individuals involved in the allegations were attempting to flee the country. If they were to leave the country, it would severely hinder the investigation process. Therefore, the court has deemed it necessary to impose a travel ban on them to ensure the fair investigation of the charges.
