Dhaka, Sept 23 (UNB) – Hailing the ongoing crackdown launched against casinos at the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon on Monday hoped that it will be a successful one.
“I hope there will be a successful end to the crackdown,” he said while talking to reporters after a meeting with Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Winnie Estrup Petersen at his office.
Khokon also said he had urged the club owners to refrain from illegal activities, including gambling, during the month of Ramadan but they did not pay any heed to his call. “But now it works.”
About the involvement of a councillor with casino business, he said he wrote the Local Government Ministry two months ago but there is no progress to this end.
Talking about the meeting with the Danish Ambassador, the DSCC Mayor said the envoy came to invite him to join the C40 World Mayors Summit-2019 in Copenhagen where mayors from 40 countries will take part.
