Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman said on Wednesday that if police and journalists work together targeting one goal and objective many crimes and injustices can be eliminated from the country.
The DMP chief was speaking at the unveiling ceremony of Mizan Malik's poetry book at Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) office in Segunbagicha on Wednesday.
"If we work unitedly, we will be able to build a beautiful country and a society what poet Mizan Malik has said in his book," he said.
He also said that many people alleged that journalists write against the police. “But I welcome many reports that went against the police because I got much information through their writings.”
“There are many things we even forget because of our busy schedule. But we can recollect that information from the journalists. Our detective teams also gathered information from them. Many times, we get a lot of intelligence information by reviewing the news through newspapers. They are also useful for us.”
Journalists can work as a complement to the government apparatus as government officials work. And if it can be done properly, then it will be beneficial for the country and society, he believed.
Among others, Director General of Bangladesh Shishu Academy Anjir Liton, President of Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) Md Kamaruzzaman Khan, General Secretary Sirajul Islam, and former Organising Secretary Bakul Ahmed were present.
